Life Calls Us to Rise
Sometimes life calls us to rise and we don’t feel like it.
We’re tired and cranky, our bodies heavy.
Sometimes life calls us to rise and the fear goblins are there too, ready.
Sometimes, life calls us to rise and we plain don’t want to,
preferring the comfort of the old story.
But there’s always a choice point.
A place where we have the opportunity to look over the landscape from a higher view and choose.
Living into greatness means we must continually move out of our own way.
Great things will happen today.
Wonderful things.
Things that once upon a time were only a dream.
But will we see?
There will always be an excuse not to.
There will always be a very good reason to complain.
Sometimes, life calls us to rise and we genuinely don’t know what to do.
For those times, I’d like to share a teaching with you:
Lost in the Forest
Stand still.
The trees ahead and bushes beside you are not lost.
Wherever you are is called Here.
And you must treat it as a powerful stranger,
must ask permission to know it and be known.
Listen.
The forest breathes, it whispers:
I have made this place around you.
If you leave it you may come back again,
saying, Here.
Stand still.
The forest knows where you are.
You must let it find you.
It’s Native American origin and was passed into my world by a poet.
If we can feel it in our bones, it doesn’t matter where the wisdom comes from.
If it soothes the mind, balms the soul, and points us in the right direction, it doesn't matter if the message is from the religion we were born in or another wisdom tradition.
There is a secret language that only we and Spirit speak.
When we’re at that choice point, the big ones and the little ones, all the times life tests us throughout a day…
Let’s tell the story of our brilliance.
Let’s tell how we were brave.
We didn’t let the fear goblins get us.
We didn’t crumble under the weight of self-doubt and insecurity.
We didn’t navigate with old stories.
We chose.
We rose to the occasion.
We stood in the dark long enough to find our way.
Modern life is mostly hollow inside, without substance or a way of relating to our everyday. Getting closer to Spirit fills it up, creating an ongoing spiritual experience where the world is infused with sacred and every act has significance.
Let’s be the people we’re meant to become.
Six weeks of spiritual development starts Sunday.
Here’s the link to feel into it.
With love and reverence,
Jem
